Make Your Own Website For Free
You can actually make your own website for free. What you need to do is signup for free hosting services like 50webs.com, byethost8.com, awardspace.com, 110mb.com and many other sites that offer free hosting services. They can give you free webspace and also a free web address which is usually a subdomain of a domain that they own. You can use free website templates from sites such as freecsstemplates.org, oswd.org, solucija.com/free-templates, and many others.
Of course you need to have some basic html knowledge or maybe ask a friend or relative to help you out. You can also use a webpage builder software such as Article Site Powerkit, Really Easy Website Builder or such other programs available online. I normally use Article Site Powerkit for myself especially if I have lots of informational articles.
Below are some samples of websites made using using free hosting and free templates available online. You might wonder how they can be free. Well, most of these services are able to offer them free so people can try their services. If you like their services, then you might want to upgrade to get more web space or get other services such as mysql database that can be used for blogs and many more. This is especially true for small business owners who want to have a virtual space in the web.
Making your own website is quite fun if you are in for some challenge. Another way you can build a site is using a WordPress platform, just like this site. A WordPress platform is quite easy to use once you get used to it. I myself only learned to use WordPress about 2 years ago. At first I didn’t want to use it but after looking around, I was able to find a tutorial that has been a great help. Now I know how to use WordPress and can also manually install one. I’ve also learned how to install and use WordPress MU (Multi-User). WordPress MU is especially useful if you want several WordPress accounts in one domain. Here is a free guide that you might want to read about wordpress.
Another way is using Blogger. With this one, you should first create a Google account. If you already have one, sign in to Blogger. You will notice that there are only 4 main menus – Edit Posts, Settings, Layout, and Monetize. For now, we will concentrate on the over-all look and interface of your website so let’s start on the Layout page. Here is the technique and where everybody else fails. We don’t want the simple, traditional Blogger templates so you might want to have one of your own. There are hundreds of free Blogger templates which can be downloaded for free. Just Google for “free blogger templates” and you can select from the simple to complex designs that will suit your need.
If you have chosen one, remove the code from your Blogger designer under Layout -> Edit Html menu and put the provided code of your chosen template. By now you have completely changed the over-all appearance of your website. You can further apply changes like changing your website’s language, hiding dates, etc. by going to the Settings page. Next is to arrange the page elements of your website. Go to Layout -> Page Elements and from there you can modify the title, heading, link bar, side bar, and other elements of your website. Doing this is in fact quite simple with the on-board WYSIWYG editor where you can add gadgets like navigation bars, links and pictures to the sides of your website.
You can even upload your own designed image as your heading. Next thing to do and I consider the final step, is to put the main contents of your website. Do this by going to the Post page. You can create and put several pages to your website by creating posts and opting to display only 1 post on each page. This will make each of your posts to be assigned to each of your pages. When done with your first post, publish the page and see how it looks. Be a little creative and make your web-log not look like a web-log but a full-featured website by playing around with Layout and Settings pages. You will be amazed at how much you can do with Blogger’s free blog service.
